The short answer
A Malaysia eVISA is checked by signing in to the MyVISA account it was filed from at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, where the status legend runs from New and eVISA Under Review to Application Successful or Application Denied. There is no public eVISA check by passport number; an issued work ePass can be verified with its ePass number, passport number and nationality.

Key takeaways
- Your eVISA status lives inside the MyVISA account that filed it, so if an agency applied, the agency's account holds the record.
- Application Successful is the only status that lets you download the eVISA; every under review status means wait.
- Document Submission or Information Update Required needs action from you, with genuine papers.
- An application left in New or Pending Payment for more than 7 working days expires and disappears from the list.
- Workers can verify an issued ePass on the Immigration Department's ePass check page, and travellers confirm their arrival card on the MDAC site.
A Malaysia visa check online depends on what you hold. Tourist and visit eVISAs are tracked inside a MyVISA account on the Immigration Department of Malaysia's portal, not by typing a passport number into a public form. Workers whose pass has been issued as an ePass can verify it on a separate check page. This guide shows both, explains every status in the eVISA legend and points out where people lose track of their application.
Can you do a Malaysia visa check by passport number?
Not for an eVISA. The MyVISA portal shows status only to the account that submitted the application, which you open with an email one-time password or a sign-in. For an issued work pass, the Immigration Department's ePass check page does use the passport number, but only together with the ePass number and nationality. A website that shows a Malaysian visa from a passport number alone is not the Immigration Department.
Signing in to check a Malaysia eVISA
- 1
Open the official portal
Type
malaysiavisa.imi.gov.myinto the browser. The page is headed Malaysia Electronic Visa Facilitation & Services and belongs to the Immigration Department of Malaysia. - 2
Choose the right sign-in
Individuals enter their email and press SEND OTP, or press SIGN IN as a returning user. Employers and organisers sign in through their own button.
- 3
Enter the one-time password
Use the code sent to the email on the account. If it does not arrive, check spam and wait a few minutes before asking for a new one.
- 4
Open My Application(s)
Your applications are listed with a status for each. Open the one you want to see its details.
- 5
Act on the status
Match the status with the legend below. Pay, upload or download only inside this portal.
- 6
Download the eVISA
When the status reads Application Successful, download the eVISA and check your name, passport number and dates against the passport.
If an agency or a sponsor filed for you, the application sits in their account, not yours. Ask them for a screenshot of the status page each time it changes, or for the eVISA itself once it is approved, and then check its details.
What do the MyVISA statuses mean?
The portal carries its own status legend. The descriptions below are the Immigration Department's, from the MyVISA application page on 29 October 2026, with what you should do at each one.
| Status | The portal's description | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| New | Your application has not been submitted | Finish the form and submit it within 7 working days or it expires |
| Pending Payment | The application is waiting for its fee | Pay inside the portal; unpaid applications also expire after 7 working days |
| eVISA Under Review | Your application is currently under review | Wait; do not submit a second application |
| Document Submission or Information Update Required | Additional documents or information are required | Upload the requested genuine papers or correct the details as asked |
| Interview Requested | The approving officer has asked for an interview | Follow the instructions in your account and attend as directed |
| Application Successful | Your application has been approved | Download the eVISA and print a copy for travel |
| Application Denied | Your application has been declined | Read the notice; a fresh application is the only route |
| eVDR Under Validation Review | Your eVDR application is under validation | Wait |
| eVDR Under Approval Review | Your eVDR application is under review | Wait |
| eVDR Application Successful, Pending for eVISA Payment | The eVDR is approved and the eVISA payment is due | Pay the eVISA fee in the portal to continue |
| eVDR Denied | Your eVDR application has been denied | Speak to your sponsor before applying again |
eVDR stages: when a Malaysian sponsor is involved
Some applications begin as an eVDR, the electronic form of Visa Dengan Rujukan, a visa with reference. The Immigration Department describes the VDR as a visa issued by a Malaysian mission abroad after approval from immigration headquarters, applied for by a Malaysian citizen sponsor while the applicant is in their home country. In MyVISA that shows up as the eVDR statuses in the table: validation, approval review, then the eVISA payment once the eVDR is approved.
The Immigration Department's VDR page gives seven working days as the processing time for a complete application. If your file has sat longer, ask the sponsor whether the immigration office has asked them for anything, because requests often go to the sponsor rather than to you.
How can a worker verify a Malaysian ePass?
Use the Immigration Department's ePass information check, titled Semakan Maklumat ePass. It asks for three things: the ePass number (the page's example looks like EP141011C23105313148), the document number, meaning your passport number, and your nationality, Bangladesh, from the list. The page says it is provided for authorities and agencies that need to check ePass details, so expect a plain government form rather than an app.
- Workers who do not yet have an ePass number are still at the application stage, which the employer handles through the Immigration Department's systems.
- The department's list of online checks, Semakan Dalam Talian on imi.gov.my, includes a check for domestic helper and foreign worker applications that opens its e-services portal. People still search for this as myIMMs.
- Your employer or the recruiting agency holds the application reference. Ask for it in writing.
MDAC: confirm your arrival card went through
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card is not a visa, but travellers often confuse the two. The MDAC portal has a Check Registration link to confirm your card was received, and Check Visit Pass and Check Egate Eligibility Status links alongside it. Questions about it go to the Immigration Department's online support page listed on the portal.
When an agency files Malaysian eVISAs for many clients, the account logins, OTP emails and status changes pile up fast. Agencies that prepare files properly use software like Visolv to track every client's file and send status updates through the agency's own client portal and WhatsApp. It does not log in to MyVISA by itself: the caseworker reads the status in the official portal and records it, and the client sees that same status.
Why your application seems to have vanished
- It expired. The portal removes applications left in New or Pending Payment for more than 7 working days from the My Application(s) list.
- It is in someone else's account. An application an agency filed will never appear in your own MyVISA login.
- You signed in with a different email. Each email is a separate account.
- The OTP went to spam, or you requested several and used an old one.
- The page did not load fully. Use an up-to-date Chrome, Safari or Firefox rather than an in-app browser, and reload.
Lookalike eVISA sites and paid status checks
The only official address for a Malaysian eVISA is malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, and the Immigration Department's other services sit on imi.gov.my. Sites with Malaysia and visa in their name, adverts on the page or a card payment to check a status are not the department, and applications made through them are at your own risk.
- Nobody needs your MyVISA OTP except you. Anyone asking for it can take over your application.
- Facebook pages that check a Malaysian work visa from your passport photo are collecting your identity.
- A calling visa or work visa sent as a picture on WhatsApp is not proof. Verify an ePass on the official check page.
What to check once the eVISA is approved
Open the downloaded eVISA and compare it with your passport line by line: full name, passport number, nationality, date of birth and validity dates. Print it and carry the printout with your passport. If anything differs, correct it through the portal before you travel, not at the airport.
For the other portals Bangladeshi travellers use, the visa check by passport number hub has them all in one table, and our Indian visa check and Singapore visa check guides cover two neighbouring routes. Agency owners will find the case for tracked files in our visa agency software guide. Whatever you hold, the Immigration Department's own pages are the only status that counts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check my Malaysia eVISA status?
Go to malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, sign in with the email that submitted the application using the one-time password, and open My Application(s). Each application shows a status such as eVISA Under Review or Application Successful. If an agency or sponsor applied for you, the status sits in their account, so ask them for it or for the approved eVISA.
Can I check a Malaysia visa with only my passport number?
No. The eVISA portal shows status only inside the account that applied. For a worker whose pass is issued as an ePass, the Immigration Department's ePass check page uses the passport number together with the ePass number and nationality. Any site claiming to show a Malaysian visa from a passport number alone is not official.
What does Document Submission or Information Update Required mean?
The Immigration Department needs more papers or a correction before it can decide. Open the application in your MyVISA account, read exactly what is requested, and upload genuine documents or amend the information as asked. Do not submit a second application while this one is open, and never send an edited paper to fill the gap.
Why has my Malaysia eVISA application disappeared from my account?
The portal automatically expires and removes applications that stay in New or Pending Payment for more than 7 working days. It may also be in another account, such as an agency's, or you may have signed in with a different email. If it expired, you need to start a new application and complete payment in time.
How can a Bangladeshi worker check a Malaysian work pass?
Once the pass is issued as an ePass, use the Immigration Department's ePass information check on imigresen-online.imi.gov.my with the ePass number, your passport number and Bangladesh as nationality. Before that, the application is in your employer's hands, so ask the employer or recruiting agency for the reference and a written update.
Is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card the same as a visa?
No. The MDAC is an arrival card that travellers submit online before reaching Malaysia; it does not replace a visa if your nationality needs one. The MDAC portal has a Check Registration link to confirm yours was received. Your eVISA status is checked separately in your MyVISA account on malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my.
