The short answer
You check an Italy visa application from Bangladesh on VFS Global's Italy tracking page, using the reference number printed on your VFS invoice or receipt and your last name. VFS also calls or messages you when the decision is back at the centre. Prenot@mi, the embassy's booking system, handles passport and notary services, not visa tracking.

Key takeaways
- Italian visa applications from Bangladesh are filed only at VFS Global, so VFS tracking is where your file's progress shows.
- The tracker needs the reference number on your VFS invoice or receipt and your last name, not a passport number.
- VFS tracks your file and passport; the decision is inside the sealed return from the embassy.
- Prenot@mi at the Italian embassy in Dhaka books passport renewal and notary appointments, not visas.
- Unclaimed passports are kept for three months after processing, then handed to the embassy.
An Italy visa check from Bangladesh happens on one site: VFS Global's tracking page for Italy. The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka says visa applications can be filed exclusively at VFS Global, so every tourist, business, student and national visa file goes through its centres in Dhaka, Chattogram or Sylhet. Here is how to track it, how to read what the tracker says, why Prenot@mi keeps turning up in searches, and when to collect your passport.
Where do you track an Italy visa from Bangladesh?
Start on VFS Global's Italy tracking page for Bangladesh. It explains that you will get a phone call when your decision has been returned to the visa application centre, provided your phone is reachable, and that SMS and email updates may also be available. Its link to track your status online opens the tracking form, which asks for the reference number on the invoice or receipt the centre gave you, plus your last name.
VFS's FAQ for Italy adds a practical rule: check the status only after the average processing time has passed. Checking every day in the first week shows the same line and tells you nothing new.
The two details the VFS tracker needs
- Application Reference Number. It is printed on the invoice or receipt you received when you submitted at the centre. Keep that paper with your passport copy; you also need the invoice copy to collect the passport.
- Last Name. Use the surname exactly as it appears on your passport and application. If your passport shows only a given name, ask VFS which name it recorded before you give up on the tracker.
There is no public Italy visa check by passport number. A website that offers one, or asks for your passport scan to look up an Italian visa, is not VFS and not the embassy.
How to track your Italy application step by step
- 1
Open the official page
Type
visa.vfsglobal.com/bgd/en/ita/track-application. Check that Bangladesh and Italy appear at the top of the page. - 2
Choose the right tracker
For visa applications lodged from 11 November 2024 onwards, use the link to track your visa application status online. Older applications have their own link on the same page.
- 3
Enter the reference number
Copy it from your VFS invoice or receipt, character by character.
- 4
Enter your last name
Type the surname as on your passport. Spelling must match the application.
- 5
Type the image text and submit
Enter the characters shown in the image and press the button to see the result.
- 6
Act on the result
If the status shows the passport is ready to deliver, go to the centre with your invoice copy during collection hours. Otherwise, wait for VFS's call or check again later.
What can the VFS tracker tell you?
VFS follows the movement of your file and passport between the centre and the embassy. It does not decide applications and cannot see the decision, which comes back sealed. The wording on screen may change, so treat this table as a guide to the stages rather than exact text.
| What the tracker or VFS tells you | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The application is received or under process at the centre | VFS has your file and has not yet sent it on | Wait |
| The application has gone to the embassy | The Embassy of Italy is processing it | Wait at least the average processing time before checking again |
| The application is ready to deliver | Your passport is back at the centre with the embassy's decision inside | Collect it with the invoice copy, or arrange courier if you chose it |
| A phone call or SMS from VFS | The decision has returned to the centre | Collect promptly; the decision is in the returned envelope |
| No result for your details | The reference number or last name did not match | Recheck both against the receipt, or contact VFS |
| Collected or delivered | The passport has left the centre | Check the visa page or the refusal form inside |
Is Prenot@mi used for Italian visas in Bangladesh?
No. Prenot@mi is the Italian foreign ministry's appointment system, and the Embassy of Italy in Dhaka uses it for passport issuance and renewal and for notary services, which serve Italian citizens. Visa applicants apply at VFS offices, as the embassy's own pages state, so there is no visa status to see on Prenot@mi. If someone sells you a Prenot@mi slot for a visa, you are paying for something that does not exist.
Older applications and consular services
- Visa applications lodged before 11 November 2024: the VFS tracking page has a separate link for these, which also covered legalisation applicants up to 29 April 2026.
- Consular services applied for on or after 30 April 2026: VFS gives another link for legalisation and similar services.
- Questions: VFS's Italy FAQ lists [email protected] and the phone lines +88 09606 777666 and +88 09666 911384. The embassy accepts visa emails only at [email protected] and [email protected] and says visa emails sent to other offices are discarded.
National visas and the nulla osta
Work and family reunification visas begin in Italy, not in Dhaka. The employer or family member applies there for a nulla osta, the clearance issued through the immigration office (Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione) of the province. Its progress is followed by the person in Italy. Only after the nulla osta exists does the visa application come to VFS, and from then on the same VFS tracker applies.
Agencies preparing Italian visitor and national visa files keep the reference numbers, collection dates and nulla osta details for every client. Agencies that prepare files properly use software like Visolv to track every client's file and send status updates through the agency's own client portal and WhatsApp. It does not read the VFS tracker on its own; the caseworker checks VFS and records what it shows, so the client sees the same stage.
Collecting your passport in time
VFS's Italy FAQ says unclaimed passports are kept for three months after the embassy has processed them, then handed to the embassy for disposal, and the fee is not refunded. Collect your passport and returnable documents from the same centre with your invoice copy, and bring a government ID such as your NID or driving licence, which the centre asks to see at the entrance. For a national visa, collection is at the Italy Visa and Legalisation Application Centre too.
Fake appointment sellers and tracking scams
Italy is one of the most sought-after Schengen routes from Bangladesh, and the European Commission's figures show 60.3% of Italian short-stay applications lodged in Bangladesh in 2025 were not issued (European Commission visa statistics). High demand breeds sellers of slots, statuses and fake visas.
- VFS tracking is free and needs only your reference number and last name. Anyone charging for a status is not VFS.
- No one can see your decision before VFS calls you, so a broker who claims to know it is guessing or lying.
- Do not send OTPs, passport photos or bank details to a Facebook page offering to track Italian visas.
- A visa sticker photo on WhatsApp is not proof. The visa is in your passport, collected from VFS.
For the full application route, read our Italy visa from Bangladesh guide and the Schengen visa from Bangladesh pillar. Other countries' official checks are in the visa check by passport number hub, and agency owners can see how tracked files work in our visa agency software guide. Keep your VFS receipt safe; it is the key to every Italian status check.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check my Italy visa status from Bangladesh?
Open VFS Global's Italy tracking page for Bangladesh, choose the link to track your visa application status online, and enter the reference number from your VFS invoice or receipt with your last name and the image text. VFS also phones applicants when the decision returns to the centre, so keep the phone number on your application reachable.
Where is the reference number for VFS Italy tracking?
It is printed on the invoice or receipt the VFS centre gave you when you submitted your application in Dhaka, Chattogram or Sylhet. Keep that paper safe, because you also need the invoice copy to collect your passport. If you lost it, contact VFS through [email protected] or the phone lines in its Italy FAQ.
Does VFS tracking show whether my Italy visa is approved?
No. VFS tracks your file and passport between the centre and the Embassy of Italy, but it does not make or see the decision. When the passport is back and ready to deliver, you collect it and find either the visa in your passport or a refusal notice in the returned documents. Anyone claiming to know the decision earlier is guessing.
Can I use Prenot@mi to check my Italy visa?
No. The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka uses Prenot@mi for passport issuance and renewal and for notary appointments, services for Italian citizens. Visa applications from Bangladesh are filed only at VFS Global, and their status is tracked on VFS's site. A Prenot@mi slot sold to you for a visa is worthless, so do not pay for one.
How long will VFS keep my passport after the decision?
VFS's Italy FAQ says unclaimed passports are kept for three months after the embassy has processed them. After that they are handed to the Embassy of Italy for disposal, and the fee is not refunded. Collect promptly once the tracker shows the passport is ready to deliver or VFS calls you, and bring your invoice copy and an ID.
Is there an Italy visa check by passport number?
No public Italy visa check works from a passport number. The official VFS tracker for Bangladesh needs the reference number from your VFS receipt and your last name. Sites offering a passport-number lookup for Italian visas are not VFS or the embassy, and giving them a passport scan risks your identity being misused.
