The short answer
The UK visitor visa application is an online form on GOV.UK that you can save and return to. It asks about your trip, identity, family, job, income, savings, who pays, where you stay, ten years of travel and any refusals. Answer from your papers, not from memory, then read the whole form back before paying the £135 fee.

Key takeaways
- Start the form from the GOV.UK Standard Visitor page, and use an email address you will check for the decision.
- Names, dates and numbers must be copied exactly from your passport and papers.
- Income, savings and trip cost answers must match your salary papers, tax return and solvency certificate at one exchange rate.
- Every refusal from any country and every relative in the UK must be declared.
- The declaration asks whether someone else completed the form, and an agency's help must be stated.
The UK visitor visa application form is long, but it is not a trick. Each question maps to a rule the officer has to apply, and an answer that disagrees with a paper in your file is one of the quickest ways to lose the officer's trust. If you fill it in with your documents open beside you, most of the risk disappears.
This guide follows the order of the online form as our team completed it for a Standard Visitor file in October 2026. The form changes its questions depending on your answers, so yours may differ slightly. Where you are unsure about a question, check the official page before you guess.
How do you start the UK visitor visa application online?
Go to the Standard Visitor apply page on GOV.UK and choose to apply from outside the UK. You create an account with an email address and can save the form and come back to it. Use an email you control and will check daily, because the decision is sent there, and the form asks whose address it is.
Before you begin, put these beside you: your passport and old passports, your NID card, bank statements and the solvency certificate, your tax return, your employer's letter or trade licence, your host's details if you are staying with someone, and any earlier refusal letters. You will copy from them, so the answers match.
What does each section of the form ask?
The table summarises the sections in the order they appeared on the October 2026 file, with the mistake we see most often in each. The question wording on the live form is the authority.
| Section | What it asks | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| About your trip | Main reason, whether you travel in a group, purpose details, arrival and departure dates | Dates that differ from the leave letter or itinerary |
| Personal details | Names exactly as in the passport, other names, email, sex, relationship status, nationality, birth details, NID | Leaving out an earlier spelling of your name used on old papers |
| Contact details | Home address, how long you have lived there, whether you own or rent it, phone numbers | An address that differs from the bank and tax papers with no explanation |
| Passport | Number, issuing authority, issue and expiry dates | Typing the old passport's number |
| Family | Partner, people who rely on you, parents' names and birth dates, family in the UK | Not listing a cousin or sibling who lives in the UK |
| Employment | Status, employer details, start date, job title, monthly earnings after tax, job description | A visiting-card title instead of the legal one, or gross pay instead of take-home |
| Finances | Other income and savings, trip cost, monthly spending, whether anyone else pays | Saying no other income when the tax return shows rent or business income |
| Accommodation | Who you stay with, their address and contacts, each other place you stay, with dates | Combining two stays into one entry |
| Travel history | UK visits in ten years, visits to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA, Switzerland or the EEA, other countries with dates | Guessing dates instead of reading the passport stamps |
| Refusals and character | Any refusal, removal or ban anywhere; convictions; other character questions | Leaving out a refusal from another country |
| Declaration | Whether the information is complete and true, and whether someone helped you | Not saying that an agency completed the form |
The papers behind each answer are listed in our guide to UK visit visa requirements for Bangladeshi applicants.
How should you answer the income and savings questions?
Copy them from your papers. Monthly earnings means after tax, as shown on your salary certificate or worked out from your tax return. Savings should equal the balance on your solvency certificate. Trip cost should be the total of flights, accommodation and daily spending in your plan. Convert taka to pounds at one rate, state that rate in your cover letter and use it for every figure.
The other-income question catches many applicants from Bangladesh. If your tax return shows rental income, agricultural income, interest or a second business, declare it here with the yearly amount. An officer who sees income in the return that the form leaves out reads it as a credibility problem, not a slip. Our guide to the bank statement for a UK visit visa explains how the statement should back these numbers up.
If someone else pays for part of the trip, the form asks who, their address, how much and why. Answer only when it is true, and make sure their letter and bank statement say the same amount.
Can an agency fill in the UK visa form for you?
Yes, an agency or a relative can complete the form for you, but the answers remain yours, and the declaration asks whether someone else filled it in. Read the finished form yourself before it is paid for. If anything is wrong, it is your application that carries the consequence.
An agency that uses Visolv drafts the form answers in the official form's order from the papers in your file, so the salary, savings and dates come from the documents rather than from a conversation. Its caseworker approves the draft, and you review it before submission. To see how the form fits into the full route, read our UK visa from Bangladesh guide.
How do you answer the travel history and refusal questions?
Read your travel history from the stamps in your current and old passports, not from memory. The form asks separately about the UK, about Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA, Switzerland and the EEA, and about other countries in the past ten years, each with reasons and dates. Short regional trips, such as India or Thailand, belong in the last part.
The refusal question covers every country, every time: a Schengen refusal in 2019 counts as much as a UK refusal last year. Give the country, the date and what happened, using the refusal letter's reference. The same honesty applies to the question about family in the UK: list every relative there, even ones who have nothing to do with this trip.
What should you check before you pay and submit?
- 1
Read the whole form as one document
Use the summary or PDF view at the end and read every answer in one sitting, papers beside you.
- 2
Match the money
Earnings, other income, savings and trip cost should equal the papers at your stated exchange rate.
- 3
Match the dates
Arrival and departure should fit your approved leave, the itinerary and every accommodation entry.
- 4
Match the people
Partner, parents, dependants and every UK relative listed, with names spelt as on their papers.
- 5
Confirm the history
Every earlier refusal declared, and travel dates checked against the passport stamps.
- 6
Pay and save the confirmation
Pay the fee, then keep the confirmation email with your GWF reference. You will need it to book VFS, to track the application and later for your eVisa account.
What happens after you submit the form?
Once the form is submitted and paid for, you are sent to VFS Global to book your appointment and, on the October 2026 file, to upload the supporting papers in sections before attending. You then give your fingerprints and photo at the centre, and the decision usually follows about three weeks later.
If you notice a mistake after submitting, GOV.UK says to contact UKVI to change an application. Do not simply start a second one. Our post on UK visa decision times explains what happens to the clock if UKVI needs more information.
The UK visitor visa application rewards patience: one section at a time, every answer copied from a paper, one exchange rate and nothing left out. If you want the form drafted from your papers and checked before you pay, go through a visa agency that uses Visolv.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I fill in the UK visa application form from Bangladesh?
Apply online through the Standard Visitor page on GOV.UK by choosing to apply from outside the UK. There is no paper form. You create an account, complete the questions, pay the fee and submit. You are then directed to VFS Global, which runs the visa application centres in Bangladesh, to book your appointment and provide your fingerprints and photo.
Can I save the UK visa application form and finish it later?
Yes. GOV.UK says you can save the online form and return to it later using the account you created with your email address. This helps when you need to collect a missing paper, such as a host's details or an earlier refusal letter, before answering. Keep your login details safe until you have submitted and paid for the application.
Should I write my monthly salary before or after tax on the UK visa form?
The form asks how much you earn each month after tax. Use the take-home figure from your salary certificate or payslips, or work it out from your tax return if you are self-employed. Convert it to pounds at the same exchange rate you use everywhere else and state that rate in your cover letter, so the officer can check every figure.
Do I need to list all my relatives in the UK on the visa form?
Yes. The form asks whether you have family in the UK, and you should list every relative there with the details it asks for, including their relationship to you and their immigration status. Leaving someone out can be treated as failing to disclose a relevant fact, which is a form of deception under the UK's suitability rules.
What if I made a mistake on my submitted UK visa form?
Contact UK Visas and Immigration to change an application after submitting it, as GOV.UK advises. Explain the correction clearly and keep a record. Do not submit a second application with different answers, and do not ignore a mistake hoping it goes unnoticed. If the error was in a money figure, also correct it in your cover letter so every paper agrees.
Can an agency submit the UK visa form for me?
An agency can complete and submit the form on your behalf, and the declaration section records whether someone else completed it. You are still responsible for every answer. Ask the agency to show you the full completed form before it is paid for, and check each answer against your papers, especially income, savings, travel history and earlier refusals.
