The short answer
The UK visit visa requirements for a Bangladeshi applicant are a valid passport plus evidence that you will leave the UK after your visit, have a genuine purpose, can pay for the trip yourself or through a genuine sponsor, and are telling the truth. Typical papers are bank statements, a solvency certificate, tax and job papers, and an itinerary.

Key takeaways
- The rules for visitors are in Appendix V of the Immigration Rules, and the officer must be satisfied on each one.
- Only a valid passport is strictly required; every other paper is evidence you choose to meet the rules.
- The papers you need depend on who you are: an employee, a business owner, a student, a retired parent or a guest of a UK relative.
- Anything in Bangla needs a certified English translation the Home Office can verify.
- Papers that agree with each other matter more than a thick file.
The UK visit visa requirements look simple on paper and are hard in practice. There is no official checklist that decides the outcome, no minimum balance and no required hotel booking. Instead, an officer reads your file against a short set of rules and decides whether you have shown, on balance, that you meet each one.
This guide sets out those rules as they stand in October 2026, then lists the documents a Bangladeshi applicant usually provides for each, split by situation: salaried employee, business owner, student, retired parent, child and a guest invited by family in the UK.
What are the UK visit visa requirements?
The requirements are set out in Appendix V of the Immigration Rules. Paragraph V 4.2 says the officer must be satisfied that you are a genuine visitor. In plain words, you must show five things, and a refusal letter usually names the ones the officer was not satisfied about.
- You will leave the UK at the end of the visit (V 4.2 (a)). Ties at home and past travel show this.
- You will not live in the UK through frequent or successive visits (V 4.2 (b)).
- The purpose is genuine and allowed for a visitor (V 4.2 (c)), such as tourism, a family visit or business meetings.
- You will not work or do anything a visitor may not do (V 4.2 (d)). Meetings are allowed; paid work for a UK client is not.
- You have enough money for the whole trip (V 4.2 (e)), including the journey home, without working or using public funds.
If someone else is paying, paragraph V 4.3 adds that they must have a genuine relationship with you and be able and willing to support you. On top of Appendix V, the suitability rules apply to everyone: no false documents, no false information and no hidden facts.
Which documents does every Bangladeshi applicant need?
Every applicant needs a passport valid for the whole stay. GOV.UK names it as the only paper you must provide; everything else is evidence. The Home Office guide to supporting documents describes the kinds of evidence that help. For a file from Bangladesh, the core usually looks like this.
- Current passport, plus old passports with earlier visas and travel stamps.
- National ID card, front and back, because the form asks for its details.
- Personal bank statements for the last six months, from the bank, and a solvency certificate dated close to the statement's end date.
- Income tax return with its acknowledgement receipt, tax certificate and TIN, where you file taxes.
- A day-by-day plan of the trip and where you will stay each night.
- A short cover letter, signed by you, that explains the trip and points to the evidence.
- Every earlier refusal letter from any country, if you have one.
Two common assumptions are wrong. The Home Office guide lists hotel bookings and flight bookings among the documents that are less useful as evidence, so you do not need to buy a ticket before the visa. And there is no fixed bank balance; what matters is covered in our guide to the bank statement for a UK visit visa.
What extra papers depend on your situation?
The ties that show you will come home differ from person to person, so the rest of the file does too. The table gives the papers usually provided in each situation. It is a starting point, not a rule list: add what explains your own life, leave out what does not apply.
| If you are | Usually provide | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| A salaried employee | Employer's letter on letterhead with your role, salary, start date and approved leave; recent salary slips; office ID | Salary credits should appear in your bank statement |
| A business owner | Trade licence with certified translation; incorporation papers, Form XII and memorandum for a limited company; company bank statement; tax papers | Use your legal job title, and explain large transfers between company and personal accounts |
| A student | Letter from your institution confirming enrolment and return to classes; student ID; the sponsoring parent's income and bank papers | The parent's papers must show they can pay |
| Retired or a homemaker | Pension papers, property papers, or the spouse's income and bank papers with your marriage certificate | Show who pays and what keeps you at home |
| A guest of family in the UK | Host's invitation letter; host's UK status (eVisa share code page or British passport); host's address proof; proof of relationship | Nights with the host must fit any limit in their tenancy |
| A child under 18 | Birth certificate showing at least one parent; a signed letter from the parent if not travelling with them | GOV.UK says the application may be refused without these |
If a relative in the UK is paying, add their bank statements and a letter saying how much they will cover and why. Remember that every relative you have in the UK must be declared on the form, whether or not they are involved in the trip.
Do Bangla documents need to be translated?
Yes. Any paper that is not in English or Welsh needs a full translation that the Home Office can verify independently. The translation must include the translator's confirmation that it is accurate, the date, their full name and signature, and their contact details. For a Bangladeshi file this usually means the trade licence, birth certificates, the Nikah Nama and some property papers.
Put each translation directly after the original in the same upload, so the officer reads them together. On the file our team submitted through VFS Dhaka in October 2026, every upload was a PDF of five pages or fewer, so a long paper and its translation may need splitting in page order. Pages are moved, never changed.
How can an agency help you meet the requirements?
A good agency does not add papers; it finds the ones that do not agree. The salary on your form that differs from the tax return, the leave letter that ends a day before your flight home, the host whose tenancy limits guests to fourteen nights: these are the details that lose files and the details a careful second reader catches.
An agency that uses Visolv has each paper in your file read, and the names, dates, balances and travel plan checked against each other, with every finding pointing to the page it came from. Its caseworker decides what to fix, the cover letter is drafted from your actual papers and you approve it before signing. The route from form to decision is in our UK visa from Bangladesh guide.
How should your papers agree with each other?
An officer reads your form and papers side by side, and the most damaging problems are small disagreements between them. Before submitting, check that these line up across every paper:
- Your name and its spelling on the passport, NID, certificates and bank papers, with any difference explained.
- Your monthly income on the form against the salary letter or the tax return, converted at one exchange rate stated in the cover letter.
- Your savings on the form against the solvency certificate.
- Your travel dates against your approved leave, the itinerary and any bookings.
- Your home address on the form against the bank statement and tax papers.
What is not required for a UK visit visa?
Several things Bangladeshi applicants are often told to provide are not requirements at all. Knowing them saves money and avoids papers that add nothing.
- A paid flight ticket. Bookings are less useful as evidence, and buying before the decision risks losing the money.
- A fixed minimum balance. The question is whether your money fits your trip and your life, not a number.
- An English test. Visitors do not take one.
- Travel insurance. It is not a visitor requirement, though cover for medical costs is sensible.
- A TB test, unless you will stay more than six months. Our TB test guide explains when it applies.
Once your papers are ready, the next step is the form itself, which our UK visitor visa application form guide takes question by question.
Meeting the UK visit visa requirements is about showing the same true story on every page: who you are, why you are going, who pays and why you will return. If you would like that story checked before it goes in, go through a visa agency that uses Visolv.
Frequently asked questions
What documents are required for a UK visit visa from Bangladesh?
A passport valid for the whole stay is the only paper every applicant must provide. Most Bangladeshi applicants also give old passports, six months of bank statements, a solvency certificate, tax papers, an employer's letter or trade licence, a trip plan and a signed cover letter. Guests of UK relatives add an invitation letter, the host's status and proof of the relationship.
Is a sponsor letter required for a UK visit visa?
Only if someone else is paying for your trip or you are staying with them. A sponsor should explain the relationship, how much they will pay and why, with their bank statements and proof of their UK status. Appendix V requires that a sponsor has a genuine relationship with you and can and will support you. If you pay for yourself, no sponsor letter is needed.
Do I need to show a hotel booking for a UK visit visa?
No booking is required. The Home Office guide to supporting documents lists hotel and flight bookings among the papers that are less useful as evidence. You should still explain where you will stay. If you do show bookings, use real ones in your own name with free cancellation, never a booking made only for the visa application.
How old can documents be for a UK visit visa?
Recent papers carry more weight. The Home Office guide says bank statements or letters issued more than a year before the application are less useful. In practice, bank statements should run up to a few days before you apply, a solvency certificate should be dated close to the statement's end date, and employer letters should be dated shortly before submission.
Does a Bangladeshi applicant need travel insurance for the UK?
Travel insurance is not one of the requirements in Appendix V for a Standard Visitor visa. Visitors are not covered by free NHS treatment for most care, so insurance that pays medical costs is sensible, and you can include it as supporting evidence. For current NHS charging rules for visitors, check the official page.
What are the UK visa requirements for a business owner in Bangladesh?
A business owner usually provides a trade licence with a certified English translation, incorporation papers, Form XII and a memorandum for a limited company, recent company bank statements, personal bank statements and tax papers. The job title on the form should match the legal one on company papers, and large transfers between company and personal accounts should be explained.
