The short answer
To get a Canada visit visa from Bangladesh, apply online through an IRCC account, pay CAD 100 plus CAD 85 for biometrics, give fingerprints at the visa application centre in Dhaka, and wait. IRCC's estimate for Bangladesh was 37 days in October 2026. If approved, you submit your passport so the visa can be placed in it.

Key takeaways
- Bangladeshi citizens need a visitor visa for every trip to Canada; the eTA only covers visa-exempt passports.
- Most people must apply online, through the IRCC secure account or the IRCC Portal, and pay the visa and biometrics fees by card at the end.
- Biometrics are given at the Canada visa application centre in Dhaka after IRCC sends a biometric instruction letter.
- Fewer than half of the temporary-resident applications IRCC processed from Bangladesh in 2025 were approved, so the file has to answer the officer's doubts before they are raised.
- Misrepresentation makes you inadmissible to Canada for five years, so every paper in the file must be the genuine one.
A Canada visit visa from Bangladesh, officially called a temporary resident visa, is the permission you need to visit family, travel as a tourist or attend business meetings in Canada. The process is online, the fees are modest and the wait is a few weeks. What decides most files is whether the officer believes you will go home, can pay for the trip and have told the whole story.
This guide covers the full route as it stands in October 2026: who needs the visa, each step from the online account to the passport request, what it costs, how long it takes, why so many Bangladeshi files are refused and what to do after a decision. Each rule links to the official IRCC page so you can check it yourself.
Do Bangladeshi citizens need a visa to visit Canada?
Yes. Bangladesh is not on Canada's visa-exempt list, so a Bangladeshi passport holder needs a visitor visa before flying, whether the trip is a holiday, a family visit or a business meeting. The electronic travel authorization (eTA) that some travellers use is only for visa-exempt nationalities, and it cannot replace the visa for you.
The visa itself is a counterfoil placed in your passport. According to IRCC's visitor visa page, it can be issued for up to 10 years, or until your passport or biometrics expire, whichever comes first, and the officer may choose a shorter date. The visa lets you travel to Canada. The border officer who meets you on arrival decides whether you enter and how long you may stay, which for most visitors is up to six months. The visa covers Canada only: the US, the UK and Schengen countries each need their own, and our guide to the UK visa from Bangladesh covers the British route.
| Your reason for going | What you apply for | Point to know |
|---|---|---|
| Holiday, or visiting family and friends | Visitor visa | Most stays are up to six months, set at the border |
| Meetings, a conference or a trade fair | Visitor visa as a business visitor | You may not enter the Canadian job market |
| Long visits by parents or grandparents of Canadians | Super visa | A separate application with its own conditions |
| A course longer than six months | Study permit | Needs a letter of acceptance and proof of funds |
| Any paid work in Canada | Work permit | A visitor visa never allows work |
| Changing planes at a Canadian airport | Transit visa | Needed even for a short connection |
How do you apply for a Canada visit visa from Bangladesh?
You apply online in almost every case, then give biometrics in Dhaka and, if approved, hand in your passport. IRCC allows paper applications only for people who cannot apply online, for example because of a disability, or who travel on certain refugee or stateless documents. A typical file moves through these stages.
- 1
Open the right IRCC account
Use the IRCC secure account (GCKey or a Sign-In Partner) or the IRCC Portal. IRCC's newer version of the Portal is open to adults applying alone for the first time without a representative.
- 2
Answer the questions and read your checklist
The account asks about your trip and family, then builds a personalised document checklist. The application form is the IMM 5257, and each person aged 18 or over completes the Family Information form, IMM 5645.
- 3
Scan and upload your papers
Passport pages, proof of funds, proof of your job or business, your travel history, and an invitation letter if someone in Canada is hosting you. Papers not in English or French need a certified translation.
- 4
Pay the fees online
The visa fee and the biometrics fee are paid together at the end, by credit or debit card. Ask your bank in advance whether your card can pay a foreign government fee.
- 5
Give biometrics in Dhaka
IRCC sends a biometric instruction letter. Book an appointment at the Canada visa application centre, which VFS Global runs, and bring the letter and your passport. Children under 14 and adults over 79 are exempt.
- 6
Watch your account
IRCC may ask for more papers, a medical exam, a police certificate or an interview. Answer every request by its deadline.
- 7
Submit your passport if approved
An approval arrives as a letter in your account asking for your passport. Submit the same passport you applied with, and collect it once the visa is inside.
Our list of Canada tourist visa requirements goes through the checklist paper by paper, including what a salaried employee, a business owner, a student and a retired parent each need to show.
What papers does the officer look for?
IRCC's eligibility rules ask you to hold a valid passport, be in good health, have no criminal or immigration convictions, show ties to home such as a job, property, assets or family, convince the officer you will leave at the end of the visit, and have enough money for the stay. Your papers are the evidence for each of those points.
- Ties to Bangladesh: an employer letter with your role, salary and approved leave, or a trade licence and tax papers if you run a business; family who stay behind; property.
- Money for the trip: bank statements, ideally covering six months as IRCC suggests for tourists, plus income papers that explain where the balance came from.
- A clear purpose: a day-by-day plan, or an invitation letter from your host with a copy of their Canadian status and proof of your relationship.
- Travel history: old passports and visas, especially earlier trips to the UK, the US, Schengen countries or Australia that ended on time.
- Honesty on the form: every earlier refusal from any country declared, every relative listed, every income matching your tax papers.
IRCC sets no fixed bank balance for visitors. The amount you need depends on how long you stay and whether you pay for hotels or stay with relatives.
How much does a Canada visit visa cost from Bangladesh?
The government fees are CAD 100 for the visitor visa and CAD 85 for biometrics per person, according to IRCC's fee list. A family applying together pays no more than CAD 500 in visa fees and CAD 170 in biometrics fees. Both are paid online when you submit, and IRCC does not refund them because a visa was refused.
Booking the biometrics appointment is free. Courier return of your passport and other optional extras at the application centre cost extra, and an agency adds its own service fee. Our breakdown of the Canada visa fee for Bangladeshi applicants adds up the full cost. Check the official page before paying, because fees change.
How long does it take?
IRCC's processing-time data, last updated on 21 October 2026, showed 37 days for a visitor visa applied for from Bangladesh. The estimate includes the time it takes to give biometrics, is refreshed weekly and is not a maximum, as IRCC explains on its processing times page. Requests for more papers, a medical exam or extra security checks add time.
The passport stage comes after the decision and adds days of its own. Apply at least two months before you fly, book only refundable tickets and give biometrics as soon as the letter arrives. Our guide to Canada visa processing time explains what slows a file down.
To follow the file while you wait, use your IRCC account and the Canada visa status check tools: the account messages, IRCC's application status tracker and, for the passport only, the application centre's tracking page.
Should you apply yourself or use a visa agency?
You can apply yourself. The account is free, the fees go straight to IRCC and the application centre serves anyone with a letter. What a careful agency adds is a second reader before the officer: someone who notices that your bank statement shows a large deposit with no explanation, that your leave letter ends before your return flight, or that your form leaves out a UK refusal from three years ago.
Agencies that use Visolv have each paper in your file read and checked against the others, with names, dates, balances and leave matched page by page, and any statement that looks edited flagged so the agency can ask for the bank's original. The caseworker approves every draft and you approve the letter that explains your trip. The decision belongs to IRCC alone, and nobody can promise it.
Why are Canada visas from Bangladesh refused so often?
Because officers approve fewer than half of the files. IRCC processed 91,320 temporary-resident applications from Bangladesh in 2025 and approved 41.3% of them, according to IRCC open data. That figure covers visitors, students and workers together, but the refusal letters most visitors receive cite the same rule.
Under section 179(b) of the regulations, the officer must be satisfied you will leave Canada at the end of your stay. Refusal letters usually tick the grounds behind that doubt: your family ties in Canada and at home, the purpose of the visit, your assets and financial situation, your job, and your travel history. The patterns behind those ticks are familiar:
- A balance that jumped shortly before the application, with no paper showing where it came from.
- A trip that costs several months of declared income.
- A host in Canada whose relationship to you, status or ability to help is not shown.
- No travel history, or a history the form leaves out.
- An employer letter that does not match the salary in the bank or the dates on the form.
- The same file sent again after a refusal, with nothing new in it.
Our guide to the reasons a Canada visa is refused explains how to read each ground and what new evidence answers it.
What happens after the decision?
If you are approved, check the visa in your returned passport straight away: your name, date of birth, passport number, the expiry date and the number of entries. Carry copies of the papers you applied with when you fly, because the border officer can ask the same questions again.
If you are refused, the reasons appear in your account. Since 29 July 2025, IRCC has sent officer decision notes with refusals of most temporary-resident applications, so you can see what the officer actually weighed. There is no appeal for a visitor visa. You can apply again with new evidence that answers each reason, or ask a lawyer about judicial review in the Federal Court, which has a strict deadline.
A Canada visit visa from Bangladesh rewards preparation more than speed. Settle the plan, gather papers that agree with each other, declare every earlier refusal and leave time for the wait. If you want help with the file, go to a visa agency that works with Visolv, so every page is cross-checked before an IRCC officer reads it.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Bangladeshi citizen visit Canada without a visa?
No. Bangladeshi passport holders need a visitor visa before travelling to Canada for tourism, family visits or business. The electronic travel authorization only covers nationalities that are visa-exempt, and Bangladesh is not one of them. You apply online through an IRCC account, pay the fees, give biometrics at the Canada visa application centre in Dhaka and then submit your passport if the visa is approved.
How much bank balance do I need for a Canada visit visa?
IRCC sets no fixed minimum for visitors. The officer asks whether your money covers the whole trip, including flights, accommodation and daily costs, while you still support your life at home. IRCC suggests tourists show bank statements, ideally covering six months, and the balance should match your declared income. A sudden large deposit with no explanation is a common refusal ground.
Where do Bangladeshi applicants give biometrics for Canada?
At the Canada visa application centre in Dhaka, which VFS Global runs for IRCC. You can only book after IRCC sends your biometric instruction letter, and booking the appointment is free. Bring the letter and your passport. Children under 14 and adults over 79 are exempt. Biometrics you gave for an earlier Canadian application may still be valid, so check your letter before booking.
Can I apply for a Canada visitor visa on paper from Bangladesh?
Only in limited cases. IRCC requires online applications from most people and accepts paper only from applicants who cannot apply online, for example because of a disability, or who travel on certain refugee, stateless or non-citizen documents. Everyone else applies through the IRCC secure account or the IRCC Portal, uploads scanned papers and pays the visa and biometrics fees by card.
How long is a Canada visitor visa valid?
A Canada visitor visa can be issued for up to 10 years or until your passport or biometrics expire, whichever comes first, and the officer may set an earlier date. The visa's validity is not the length of each stay. The border officer decides how long you may remain when you arrive, which for most visitors is up to six months per visit.
Can I reapply after a Canada visa refusal?
Yes. There is no waiting period after an ordinary visitor refusal. A new application should answer each reason in the refusal letter and the officer's notes with new or stronger evidence, because sending the same papers again usually brings the same answer. The exception is misrepresentation, which makes you inadmissible for five years. Declare the earlier refusal on every new form.
