Germany Schengen visa requirements from Bangladesh are among the most clearly written of any embassy in Dhaka, because the German embassy publishes a detailed checklist for each purpose of travel. This guide goes through the tourist checklist dated 2 February 2026 item by item, then covers the VIDEX form, appointments, fees, processing time and what to do after a refusal.
Who should apply to the German embassy?
Apply to Germany when it is your main destination: the Schengen country where you will spend the longest time, or the first you enter if stays are equal. The German embassy in Dhaka also handles Schengen visas for Estonia, but only for certain groups, such as official passport holders and family members of Estonian and EU citizens; other Estonia applicants use Estonian representations.
The embassy also says you apply at the mission responsible for your main residence, not your place of birth or nationality, so Bangladeshis living in another country apply there. The wider rules on choosing an embassy are in our Schengen visa from Bangladesh guide.
What does the German tourist checklist ask for?
The German embassy's tourist checklist, dated 2 February 2026 and used when Germany or Estonia is the main destination, lists the papers below. Incomplete applications are refused, and the embassy can ask for further papers or call you for an interview.

| Copies | Passport data pages and earlier Schengen, US, Canada or UK visas, all on A4 |
How do you fill in the VIDEX form?
You complete the Schengen form online on VIDEX, then print every page, because the barcode on the printout carries your application number. Print and sign the Declaration of Consent too. The embassy posts a Bangla version of the form for reference only, and the counter accepts only the English or German form.
Every answer has to match your passport and papers, from the spelling of your name to the travel dates. Our guide to filling in the Schengen form goes through it field by field.
How do you book a German visa appointment in Bangladesh?
Only through VFS. The embassy states that all Schengen visa applications are handled by VFS and that appointments can only be booked on the VFS Germany Bangladesh site. It warns against third-party offers and says it does not work with brokers or agencies, so nobody can sell you a faster slot.
You can apply up to six months before travel. Requests for expedited processing or preferential treatment are not honoured, and if you plan to travel within two weeks, the embassy suggests checking whether you can postpone. On the day, bring the appointment notification, printed or on your phone, and your passport.
How much does a German Schengen visa cost?
The visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12, according to the embassy's Schengen visa page, and it is always paid in taka. The centre's service fee is paid in advance and the visa fee at the end of the appointment, and the visa fee is not refunded even if the visa is refused. Check the official page before paying.
Several groups pay no visa fee, including children under 6, school pupils and accompanying teachers on educational trips, visiting scientists, trade fair exhibitors with original passes, and spouses and minor children of German citizens. Germany also charges separately when it verifies Bangladeshi documents with the issuer, as the same page lists. Our Schengen visa fee guide covers the rest of the cost.
Should you use an agency for a German visa?
Use one for the file, not for access. The German embassy does not work with brokers or agencies, and no agency can get you an appointment, a faster decision or special treatment. What an agency can do is help you assemble a file that meets a long checklist and check that every paper agrees with the others.
If you use one, choose an agency that checks files with Visolv. It reads every paper against the others, from the leave dates on the employer letter to the income in the statements and the tax receipt, flags papers that look edited, and drafts the covering letter from what the papers show, with agency staff and then you approving it. See how the check works.
How long does a German Schengen visa take?
The embassy gives 15 working days as the standard processing time for a short-stay visa, counted from when the application reaches the embassy, which can take up to five working days after your appointment. Some decisions take a few days and some take months, depending on the purpose, and the embassy contacts you only once a decision is made.
Your passport stays with the embassy during processing, and if you need it back before the decision you have to withdraw the application and apply again later. When you collect it, check the visa at once and report any error by email with your passport number, full name and the problem.
What if Germany refuses your visa?
Germany abolished remonstration worldwide from 1 July 2025, so you can no longer ask the embassy to reconsider. Refusal letters now point only to a lawsuit at the administrative court in Berlin. You can always submit a new application instead, and for refusals based on weak or missing papers that is usually the quicker route.
Complaints about staff conduct or the process can go through the embassy's contact form, in German or English, but they cannot be used to challenge a refusal. Our guide on what to do after a Schengen refusal explains how to rebuild the file.
Germany Schengen visa requirements from Bangladesh are demanding but published in plain detail. Follow the February 2026 checklist line by line, book only through VFS, keep every paper original and genuine, and if you want the file checked before your appointment, go through a visa agency that uses Visolv.
Frequently asked questions
What documents are required for a Germany Schengen visa from Bangladesh?
The German embassy's tourist checklist asks for the printed VIDEX form and Declaration of Consent, a passport, a 35x45 mm photo, €30,000 travel insurance, hotel and flight reservations, a covering letter and tour plan, job or business papers, six months of original statements, the latest tax acknowledgement and civil-status certificates, with copies on A4.
How do I book a German visa appointment in Bangladesh?
Book only on the VFS Germany Bangladesh website. The German embassy says all Schengen applications are handled by VFS, that appointments can only be booked there, and that it does not work with brokers or agencies. Anyone offering to sell you a slot or speed up the decision is not part of the official process.
Do I need to buy a flight ticket for a German Schengen visa?
No. The German embassy's checklist says you only have to reserve the flight, not buy it, and the reservation should be genuine and checkable with the airline. Hotel bookings are stricter: the checklist asks for a valid booking with the hotel's full address, contact details and the booking reference for your stay.
How long does the German embassy in Dhaka take to decide?
The embassy gives 15 working days as the standard for short-stay visas, counted from when the application reaches it, which can take up to five working days after your appointment. Decisions can be quicker or take months depending on the purpose, and the embassy does not give individual status updates while it decides.
Can I appeal a German Schengen visa refusal?
Not by remonstration any more. The German embassy says remonstration was abolished worldwide from 1 July 2025, and refusal letters now mention only a lawsuit at the administrative court in Berlin. You can always submit a new application, which is usually the better choice when the refusal was about weak or missing papers.
Does Germany accept property deeds as proof of funds?
No. The German tourist checklist asks you not to submit property deeds. It wants original personal bank statements for at least six months, and accepts proof of other funds or assets such as DPS, FDR or holding tax receipts, with a holding tax receipt preferred. Business owners add six months of company statements.
